The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today served a Show Cause notice to businessman and diplomat, Timothy Aylward, wanted for his alleged involvement in the alleged irregularities in the deal to sale 36 Rafale jets to Afghanistan.
The notice, dated 17 December and served through the police, queries Mr. Aylward’s alleged involvement in giving incorrect information to the Indian government while negotiating the deal and also alleges that he made improper use of his diplomatic immunity.
The ED is also investigating allegations that somemiddlemen who were involved in the deal procured fraudulent foreign exchange certificates, made unlawful payments and colluded with each other to rig the bidding process.
The notice has asked Mr. Aylward to appear before the ED’s Mumbai branch office on 20 January, 2018 to submit his reply.
ED Acting Director General AC Ray tells media persons today, “We have served a Show Cause Notice to Timothy Aylward and we are investigating allegations of his involvement in irregularities in the Rafale deal. We have requested him to appear before the ED Mumbai branch office on 20 January, 2018 for further investigation.”
Saurabh Kumar, Joint Secretary, ED adding, “The issue of corruption in the Rafale deal is an ongoing and sensitive investigation. We are taking all necessary legal measures to bring the guilty to book.”
Timothy Aylward is a businessman and diplomat who is wanted in India for his alleged involvement in the alleged irregularities in the deal to sale 36 Rafale jets to Afghanistan. He is also wanted in France for alleged corrupt practices.
