|About the Book|
La Sirena is one of the best short stories that Ive ever read. Too tired and jetlagged to do this justice, but in these various fragments, as in Il Gattopardo, Lampedusa gives us his special insight (heartbreakingly accurate and relevant even today) into Sicily and Sicilianita. And what a way with words - hard to imagine that all the publishers turned him down during his life time. One of those writers whose death seems like an enormous loss in terms of what could have been produced. But read La Sirena, by all means, in whichever language you can. Having just come back from my annual trip to those ancient seas, all I can say is that the Sicilian sea and the sun just might make you a believer.
